Strathmore Landscape Contractors is proud to continue with its commitment to being industry leaders in sustainable landscape management and ecological responsibility by being the first in the country to offer large-scale property maintenance services using environmentally-friendly tools.

Strathmore began offering the innovative services of two Zero-Emission landscape maintenance teams in 2011. The original Zero-Emission teams served a small-scale, urban clientele. In 2013, Strathmore expanded on this idea by offering large commercial sites a Zero-Emission service starting with Marché Central, managed by Bentall Kennedy. This Montréal power centre occupies more than 1 million square feet and has 5.5 acres of lawns.

"Our clients are commercial property managers. They rely on us for proactive service. We pride ourselves in offering them solutions before they've even realized they need one!" says Jessica Milligan, Vice-President of Strathmore Landscape Contractors. "We know Bentall Kennedy are leaders in the area of environmentally sustainable property management and our goal over the past five years has been to continuously reinforce this through the programs and services we offer them. Pioneering this Zero-Emission lawn care service on their site was a win-win for both companies!"

Large-scale commercial lawn care requires tools which are not readily available in Canada. Strathmore custom ordered continuous mowing lawn tractors and push mowers from an American supplier. These mowers operate exclusively off of lithium batteries which are replaced continuously during the course of the work day.

"Gas-powered tools cannot be eliminated completely just yet," Milligan explains. "But we are able to reduce carbon emissions by up to 75%! Combine that with other environmental practices such as composting and responsible irrigation management and you see why Strathmore and Bentall Kennedy are environmental leaders."

Several award-winning and LEED or BOMA BESt-certified buildings are among Strathmore's prestigious clientele. 'I wanted to congratulate you on showing leadership in corporate sustainability. With the growth of certifications such as LEED and BOMA BESt, it's encouraging to see firms like (this one) champion the essence of these certifications' says Sustainability Consultant Elliot Hickey of BLJC.

With a growing collective conscience in Canada in acting positively toward the environment, Strathmore is eager to continue to expand this important environmental initiative.
