In early February, Level 3 reported it lost $52 million, or 3 cents per share, in the last three months of 2010. That compares with a loss of $182 million, or 11 cents per share, in the year earlier period. Shares of LVLT plummeted after the earnings announcement as the company forecast negative free cash flow for fiscal 2011.

Yesterday Akamai Technologies posted a 32% jump in fourth quarter profit. The company earned $52.5 million, or 27 cents a share in the quarter, up from $39.7 million, or 21 cents a share, in the same quarter a year ago.
