Strike averted at Safeway Stores in Manitoba.

Bargaining throughout the night nets tentative agreement.

Attention: Agriculture Editor, City Editor, Food/Beverage Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor WINNIPEG/ MANITOBA, PRESS RELEASE--(Marketwire - March 13, 2009) - At 6:00a.m. Friday morning negotiations between UFCW Local 832 and Canada Safeway concluded after both parties came to an agreement. Details of the agreement will not be released until the members have a chance to hear the details and vote on it this Sunday.

President Ziegler is glad to be presenting a "Tentative Agreement" this Sunday instead of a recommendation of rejection to the company's last offer. "These were difficult negotiations and probably the closest we've come to a strike with Safeway since our 1978 strike," stated Ziegler.

A ratification vote will take place this Sunday across the province. UFCW Local 832 represents over 3300 Safeway members working at 33 Safeway stores across the province of Manitoba.
