Strike Settled at National Gypsum

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(CCNMatthews - Jan 26, 2006) -

Locals 721 and 721B of the International Union of Operating Engineers have ratified an agreement with National Gypsum Canada Ltd., settling a five-month strike at the company's Milford, NS, quarry and its Burnside dock.

"We are happy the strike is over and our associates will be coming back to work," said Thomas C. Nelson, chief executive officer of the company. "The strike has been costly for all parties. We will be working to repair broken relationships and to build on a foundation of trust established within the community over the past 50 years."

Mediator Milton Veniot helped the two parties reach the four-year agreement which included increases in wages and benefits.
