Striving to Reach New Heights to Make Swaziland Aviation Safer

NORWICH, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Dec 21, 2011) - Formed in December 2009, the Swaziland Civil Aviation Authority (SWACAA) was established with a hard objective to achieve -- rectifying the failing standards identified by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in 2007.

Two years down the line, Director General (DG) Solomon Dube explains that there is a structured, strategic plan underway to ensure that standards are dramatically improved in every area of the business.

"We want the world to know what we are doing about it," states Dube. "We are not sitting back, we are working very hard to do our bit for worldwide aviation and make travelling safer."

The SWACAA is also responsible for running two of Swaziland's airports, the Matsapha International Airport and the brand new Sikhupe Airport, which is still under construction and aims to be fully operational by mid 2012.

With the regulatory side of the SWACAA being based in Swaziland's capital Mbabane, there are also approximately 120 staff based in Matsapha Airport, training fire, security and safety control recruits in preparation for the opening of the Sikhupe Airport.

About Swaziland Civil Aviation Authority (SWACAA)
SWACAA was created in 2009 to improve the poor standards recognised in the International Civil Aviation Organisation's audit in 2007 which had eight critical safety elements of the former government department including: acts; regulations; structure; human resources and technical guidance documentation. Scoring well below the world average, a corrective action plan was developed and the decision was taken to form an autonomous body to ensure Swaziland had a safety and security oversight for aviation in the country.
