Strong Turnout for Biggest PKR Live Yet

Londoner Rob Angood takes on 243 players for GBP 40k prize

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - May 31, 2011) - Next-generation poker website's live series took another step forward last weekend with the success of PKR Live VI – the biggest poker tournament in England this May.

Hosted at the Fox Poker Club in London's West End, this latest tournament in the popular PKR Live series was opened to the public for the first time ever. The tournament, with a buy-in of £750, attracted a 243 runner field and a prize pool of £170,100. The players included the six members of Team PKR Pro and some of the UK's top professionals including Neil Channing, Andrew Feldman, Nik Persaud, Jeff Kimber, Priyan de Mel and Jerome Bradpiece.

Victoria Casino regular Rob Angood - third in the UKIPT Manchester Main Event earlier in the year - began the final table with the chip lead, and fought off challenges from EPT Monte Carlo finalist Craig McCorkell and GUKPT finalists Darren Fuller and Guy Steel, before going on to claim the PKR Live VI title and £40,420 in prize money.

The final table featured three well known PKR players – PKR's 'Raise Your Game' strategy section contributor and cash game regular Ross 'MrStarch' Jarvis, former Poker Player Magazine editor Mark 'ShipHead' Stuart and renowned cash game star Will 'BrotherMuzone17' Dorey, the latter performing best with a fifth place finish worth £11,905.

Of the six members of Team PKR Pro, Sascha 'locodice' Walter fared best with an 11th place finish worth £2,125. His performance was closely monitored by the ten promotional winners who each won 1% of the German home-grown star in a free-to-enter promotion prior to the tournament.

PKR Cardroom Manager Neil Wright said, "We're delighted with the response to our latest and biggest live tournament. With its designation as an open event, PKR's players are now able to test their skills against some of the best in the business for even bigger prize money. With a fantastic venue and inimitable atmosphere, PKR Live continues to go from strength to strength. We're already looking forward to the next one'.

Interviews with the winner and runner-up, London based Canadian Kevin Ayow are available here on the PKR News Player.
