Stroock's Energy and Project Finance Practice Group Enhanced by Addition of New Chair Jeffrey Meyers and New Partner Jon Mostel

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - September 17, 2009) - Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP, a national law firm with offices in New York, Los Angeles and Miami, announced today that Jeffrey W. Meyers joins as Chair and Jon R. Mostel joins as Partner in the Firm's Energy and Project Finance Practice Group.

Mr. Meyers and Mr. Mostel were most recently with Dewey & LeBoeuf in New York City. Both are prominent names in the energy industry, with extensive legal and business experience, particularly in transactional matters. Their arrival further solidifies and enhances an already strong energy practice that has headlined major industry deals in the last few years.

"Stroock's historic track record in managing some of the biggest energy transactions of the last few years made their commitment to this sector clear," noted Mr. Meyers. "And combined with strong complementary practices in Project Finance, Infrastructure and Derivatives and Commodities, it is a natural fit for both our skill set and client base."

Mr. Meyers' principal areas of practice include the development and financing of domestic and international energy projects, as well as the acquisition and sale of interests in energy facilities and companies. He has worked on such matters in the United States, the Caribbean, Latin America, the Commonwealth of Independent States and Southern Africa. Mr. Meyers has extensive experience in planning and analysis of project structural alternatives, and drafting and negotiating all operative project documents for a broad range of energy facilities in the United States and abroad. Mr. Meyers' clients include utilities, independent power producers, governments, oil and gas companies, and venture capital and private equity investors, among others. Most recently, Mr. Meyers worked on matters involving wind and solar energy generating projects, biofuels production facilities, gas-fired and coal-fueled generating facilities, oil reclamation, oil and gas exploration and production, and investments in energy technologies.

Mr. Mostel's experience encompasses representing a wide range of clients in natural gas and electricity transactional and regulatory matters, including the formation, mergers, acquisitions, dispositions and regulation of energy sector companies; power generation project development; project and transmission line site selection; permitting; and environmental review. Mr. Mostel is also highly experienced in engineering, procurement and construction agreements for electric power generation, renewable energy projects (biodiesel, ethanol and wind) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project development, fuel procurement and transportation arrangements for electric power projects, including contracts and agreements on behalf of utilities, industrial hosts, and independent power producers for operation and maintenance; power and thermal energy sales agreements; and project financing. Most recently, Mr. Mostel has counseled clients developing merchant electric transmission projects that would reduce transmission constraints and congestion and deliver substantial economic and reliability benefits to the US power grid.

Prior to Dewey, Mr. Mostel served in a variety of senior management, engineering and operating positions with the Brooklyn Union Gas Company. Mr. Mostel was a member of industry committees that monitor and recommend codes and procedures for the safe and efficient operation of natural gas and LNG storage, and transportation facilities in North America.
