StubHub FanStats(SM) -- 2006 Top 25 College Football Rivalries

Traditional Rivalries Begin This Week -- Ohio State vs. Michigan Eclipse All Others With Average Prices at Nearly $900

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 13, 2006 -- This week marks the start of the traditional college football rivalry season with four of the top 25 games taking place. Though games like the "Iron Bowl," "Old Oaken Bucket" and "Backyard Brawl" will happen, none will compare with the attention paid to #1 vs. #2, Ohio State and Michigan, Saturday in Columbus. The game continues atop StubHub's Top 25 Rivalry Rankings for the fourth consecutive week dwarfing traditional games in sales and significance. The Buckeyes and Wolverines have successfully navigated the season to remain undefeated and play for not merely bragging rights Saturday, but a trip to the BCS National Championship game.

Ticket buyers continue to purchase scores of tickets at the StubHub marketplace for an astounding average price of $890 a piece. The average ticket selling price is nearly $300 more than this year's average World Series ticket price ($624) and overall sales have already increased 330% from the 2005 game. The minimum offering price is $500 as of today with some 50 yd seats being offered near $5000.

This week's big other big rivalries include the aforementioned "Iron Bowl" between Auburn and Alabama, one of the nation's most storied and heated games. Though both teams suffered setbacks last weekend it's had no affect on this rivalry with average ticket prices selling for $358 and demand up 222% year over year.

West Virginia and Pittsburgh renew their annual "Backyard Brawl" on Thursday evening and while tickets are still selling at an affordable $87 per seat, the demand has seen an increase of over 500% from 2005 with both the Mountaineers and Panthers having successful seasons.

Indiana and Purdue Universities will clash for the "Old Oaken Bucket" again Saturday in what has the least expensive average ticket cost of any game in the StubHub Top 25 at only $58. That low price hasn't meant low interest though as sales are up 517% year over year for this in-state battle.

The StubHub Top 25 Rivalry Rankings list the traditional college rivalry game tickets that are in highest demand. As sales fluctuate due to pre-game hype and team performance, a new Top 25 list will be released every Monday until the conclusion of the regular season (Games will be ranked based on gross ticket sales activity through StubHub.com). This year an additional data point has been added -- Rivalry Game Demand Change. Based on total gross sales, this percentage is the change between each respective rivalry game, compared with their 2005 total sales.

Rankings are expected to change weekly based on the importance of each game and the overall performance of one or both teams. Once a game has been played it still may rank on the list based on the total sales activity for that game. For example, Michigan @ Ohio State could outsell all other games this season and therefore rank number one many weeks after it has been played.
