StubHub FanStats(SM) -- 2007-08 Top 10 Bowl Game Rankings and Fan Advantage Ratios
StubHub Ticket Sales Show Hottest Games and Projected Fan Attendance
SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - December 20, 2007) - Following one of the most unpredictable
regular seasons in college football history, today marks the start of the
college bowl season, as Utah will battle Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl.
StubHub has compiled a list of the top ten selling bowl games for 2007-08
on the world's largest ticket marketplace. StubHub's ranking system has
narrowed down the large quantity of this year's games (32) to provide fans
with the ten hottest tickets based on dollar volume of each game on
www.stubhub.com.
With little surprise, this year's BCS National Championship game between #1
Ohio State and #2 LSU has a stronghold on the number one spot, as it is
among the top five selling events in company history, based on dollar
volume (#1 -- Super Bowl XLI). The highly anticipated match-up is on pace
to outsell last year's BCS title game, currently the second best selling
event of all-time, as ticket sales have increased 25% year-over-year.
Coming in at numbers two and three are the Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl
respectively, with sales neck and neck for those two New Year's Day games.
While those games are grossing the most dollars, the Capital One Bowl
between Michigan and Florida is currently selling the most actual tickets
of any bowl game. With an average price of only $193 it is a relative
bargain when compared to the BCS games and subsequently has sold double the
amount of tickets sold for the BCS Title Game, Rose and Fiesta Bowls
respectively.
"This year's bowl season is the culmination of the most unpredictable
college football season of all time. Plenty of debate has surrounded the
BCS match-ups but that hasn't slowed down ticket buyers who are thrilled to
see their teams play," said Sean Pate, StubHub company spokesperson. "There
are also very attractive match-ups in the non-BCS games like the Cotton,
Capital One, Chick-fil-A and Holiday Bowls which are driving significant
sales for their games."
By comparing the volume of ticket sales in each bowl team's home state,
StubHub has also projected the ratio of each school's fans that will be
traveling to the game, our so-called "fan advantage." With ticket
distribution limited for each participating school, many fans turn to
StubHub for tickets to their bowl games. An overwhelming turnout of fans
for one team at a neutral site can create a virtual home-field advantage.
According to StubHub sales, the majority of games show just slight
advantages for one team, with the exceptions of the Capital One Bowl and
the Alamo Bowl, both of which feature teams from the venue's home state.
Surprisingly, LSU only holds a 3 to 1 edge over Ohio State for the BCS
National Championship game, despite the game being played in the nearby New
Orleans Superdome.
