StubHub FanStats(SM) - 2007 Top 25 College Football Rivalries

Saturday's Ohio State-Michigan Game Remains Top Selling Rivalry of Season

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - November 14, 2007) - The traditional rivalry season begins this weekend with arguably the most prominent of all college football rivalries, Ohio State and Michigan. Saturday's game in Ann Arbor, Michigan tops the StubHub Top 25 Rivalry Rankings for the second consecutive week and looks to be in comfortable position to once again be the top selling college football rivalry of the year on StubHub.com.

Despite both teams coming into the game off surprising losses last week, gross sales for #7 Ohio State at #23 Michigan have outpaced the second ranked rivalry game, USC @ Notre Dame played on October 20th, by nearly 50%. Third ranked UCLA @ USC still has two weeks for sales to increase, but currently Ohio State @ Michigan is outselling it by nearly 75%.

With the Ohio State-Michigan game just a few days away, fans are still shopping from hundreds of ticket listings at StubHub where the average selling price has dropped slightly to $394 per ticket. That's more than half of the whopping $876 per ticket commanded for last year's game of the year in Columbus, but still one of the heftiest prices of any game in the rankings. With the game to decide the Big Ten Champion and Rose Bowl participant, tickets are still at a high premium with listed prices starting at $250 as of today.

The rest of the top ten remains virtually unchanged from last week, but charging fast from the outside is #3 Kansas vs. #5 Missouri, Nov. 24 in Kansas City. The game rises another four spots this week to number eleven overall, commanding $189 per ticket, nearly triple the selling price it did in 2006 ($69). With national championship implications likely at stake for both teams, sales for "The Border Showdown," the second-oldest rivalry in Division I-A, should see a top ten finish this season.

The StubHub Top 25 Rivalry Rankings display the traditional college rivalry game tickets that are in highest demand by gross dollar volume of tickets sold through the StubHub ticket marketplace. A new Top 25 list is released weekly until the conclusion of the regular season as sales fluctuate due to pre-game hype and team performance. An important component of the rankings, Average Ticket Price, can also reflect the difference in year over year demand for each game, an interesting stat with so many traditional powers having sub-par seasons.

Rankings are expected to change weekly based on the importance of each game and the overall performance of one or both teams. Once a game has been played it still may rank on the list based on the total sales activity for that game. For example, USC @ Notre Dame could outsell all other games this season and therefore rank number one many weeks after it has been played.
