STUDENT ASSESSMENT IS ABOUT MORE THAN TESTING

Please - No More All Night Marking! Assessment Tools That Work Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Education Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 19, 2005) - The classroom teacher is the best person to evaluate student progress. But, effective evaluation does not have to mean marking until midnight.

A summer course offered by the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) and the Renfrew County Teacher Local will explore a wide range of time-effective assessment tools.

The course is one of a wide range of professional development opportunities offered this summer by ETFO in partnership with its locals across the province. Courses are taught by ETFO members and designed to provide teachers with practical skills and resources to use in their classrooms. Hundreds of elementary teachers are expected to take part.

Available courses include a women's leadership institute, principals' qualifications program, and credit courses.

This highly interactive three-day course for primary, junior, and intermediate teachers will provide teachers with at least fifteen different assessment tools, including rating scales, checkbrics, and portfolios. It will also feature co-operative learning strategies.
