Student ingenuity on display at Capstone Design Fair

Over 95 Schulich School of Engineering student projects showcase engineering innovation

CALGARY, AB--(Marketwired - April 07, 2015) - Remote sensing of wetlands, an automated garment refreshing system, and 2D microwave imaging are just a few of the projects at the 2015 Capstone Design Fair. On April 8, over 95 innovative engineering projects prepared by more than 450 students in their final year at the Schulich School of Engineering will be displayed in MacEwan Hall.

"Capstone is a chance for students to apply technical knowledge and develop professional skills like time management and teamwork," says Ron Hugo, associate dean (teaching and learning) at the Schulich School of Engineering. "It's a very rich learning experience."

Capstone is a team-based design course in which students apply the knowledge acquired in earlier courses while refining their skills in teamwork and project management. Students work towards innovative, entrepreneurial solutions to design projects, and engage in individual critical reflection on their course activities, team performance, and on their growth as an engineering designer within their undergraduate program.

At the fair, the design projects will be judged by a volunteer panel of professional engineers.
