Student Shorts Competition Launches on TTC Network

ONESTOP Media Group and Art for Commuters launch “Ideas for a Living City”, a student shorts competition on the TTC Network February 1 – Mar 2

Attention: Arts/Entertainment Editor, Assignment Editor, City Editor, Education Editor, Environment Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 31, 2008) - ONESTOP Media Group's TTC Network and its community art programming partner Art for Commuters are pleased to announce the 2008 Student Shorts Competition: "Ideas for a Living City". Airing on ONESTOP TTC subway platform screens Feb 1 -March 2 the program features 1 minute silent films, videos and animations depicting green visions, hopes and dreams for the city.
Submissions from OCAD, York/Sheridan and Humber were received. Art for Commuters has selected 8 of the best shorts to air on ONESTOP's TTC network. During the month of February two shorts per week will be featured, and Feb 29 - March 2 the two shorts awarded first and second place will be featured.
Sharon Switzer - Art for Commuters Executive Director says, "The Greening Toronto theme challenges post-secondary students to imagine what Toronto might be like if it was an ecologically sustainable city. It makes sense to ask our younger citizens to imagine a green future for the city, since they're the ones that will be experiencing that future. This is a great opportunity for emerging artists and filmmakers, and it might just help to instill a hopeful sense of community."
The program will run on over 190 Onestop TTC subway platform video screens to an audience of over a 100,000 daily.
Michael Girgis, ONESTOP Media Group President adds, "This city has produced some of the world's finest artists and we are giving the next generation of talented students a chance to exhibit their work to a massive audience at no cost to the school or the students. We are looking forward to expanding the competition in the spring to include works of art from more GTA schools."
