Students to go New Distances in Support of Cancer Research During Terry's CAUSE on Campus

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 8, 2014) - Thousands of Terry's CAUSE on Campus participants will go new distances in support of cancer research this fall as the campaign enters its third year.

In September and October, students at post-secondary institutions across Canada will unite to honour Canadian hero Terry Fox and support his 34-year legacy of raising funds for cancer research. CAUSE stands for College and University Student Engagement.

Thousands of post-secondary students are expected to take part this year, with events and marathons held on campuses during September and October in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. Participating schools include:

Memorial University, Dalhousie University, Mount Allison University, New Brunswick Community College, Carleton University, Queen's University, Trent University, University of Toronto, McMaster University, Wilfrid Laurier University, University of Waterloo, Western University, University of Manitoba, University of Regina, University of Calgary, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), MacEwan University, Okanagan College, Simon Fraser University, Langara College, University of British Columbia, University of British Columbia - Okanagan, and University of Victoria.

Today's 2014 campaign launch will be marked by a social media blitz celebrating T-Shirt Day. Participating institutions will flood Twitter and Facebook, with images of student and staff teams wearing their distinctive Terry's CAUSE on Campus t-shirts. Expect to see festively decorated school mascots, and maybe a few pets too! Images will be tagged with the #Tees4Terry hashtag.

"There is a strong connection between Terry and the community of Canadian post-secondary students," said Darrell Fox, Terry's brother and a Terry Fox Research Institute (TFRI) senior advisor, who is spearheading the national initiative. "Terry was a university student when he started planning what would become the Marathon of Hope. That students today continue to take up his cause is an honour to his dream of ending cancer."

All funds raised will go to the Terry Fox Foundation (TFF) for investment in cancer research by the Terry Fox Research Institute (TFRI).

Terry's CAUSE on Campus (TCC) was launched in 2012 by the TFF and the TFRI in partnership with post-secondary institutions across Canada.
