Study Indicates Dreampad(TM) Is an Effective Sleep Solution for War Veterans Experiencing PTSD

All Participants Reported Improved Sleep After Using the iLs Dreampad(TM)

DENVER, CO--(Marketwired - Sep 15, 2014) -  Integrated Listening Systems (iLs), a provider of multi-sensory programs and products for improving brain function and emotional regulation, today announced the findings of a recent study that measured the effect of the iLs Dreampad with 10 war veterans diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Ten out of 10 participants in the study titled "Measuring the effect of the iLs Dreampad with 10 war veterans diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)" reported improved sleep. Those with nightmares reported a reduction in, or complete absence of nightmares while using the Dreampad.

Ten veterans diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder were included in this study. (All participants were diagnosed with PTSD by a psychiatrist, psychologist or a social worker). Five of the participants reported chronic pain.  Each participant recorded his/her sleep habits and pain symptoms for two weeks prior to using the Dreampad, two weeks while using the Dreampad, and two weeks after beginning use of the Dreampad. Their journals included Dreampad use, sleep habits and other comments. All 10 participants reported improved sleep, specifically, that the Dreampad appeared to work in three ways:

  • Helped veterans initially fall asleep faster
  • Helped veterans fall back asleep after a nightmare or even change the pattern of the re-occurring dream
  • Helped reduce the PTSD symptoms of nightmares such as sweating, heart pounding, etc.

"This study suggests that the iLs Dreampad may be an effective option for those that suffer with post traumatic stress disorder that interferes with the ability to get a good night's sleep," said
Jan R. Nelson, MA, OTR, administrator of the study. "Participants said that the Dreampad helped them to return to sleep quickly after awakening during a nightmare and helped participants stay asleep longer. The Dreampad may be an effective sleep intervention program for PTSD populations."

The Dreampad delivers music through a gentle, calming vibration that brings about a relaxation response. Dreampad's Intrasound technology provides a deeper level of calm and relaxation than regular speaker music and relieves stress, improves sleep, and decreases sensory hypersensitivity.

"We were pleased with the results of this latest study. The veterans' comments were generally consistent with feedback we are getting from clinicians regarding trauma in general. The Dreampad seems to be able to help them with sleep difficulties, and it is particularly gratifying to see the same results occurring with war veterans," said Ron Minson, MD, Clinical Director at iLs. "This latest study provides further endorsement of the Dreampad's effectiveness in bringing on restorative sleep."

About Integrated Listening Systems (iLs)
iLs provides a multi-sensory program for improving brain function and emotional regulation while training the brain to process sensory information. iLs equipment utilizes sound therapy and takes it to a new level of efficacy by combining advanced psychoacoustics with visual and balance activities that are performed while listening. iLs has a global effect on the brain and central nervous system and is successfully applied to a wide variety of conditions, including those related to emotional and behavioral regulation, sensory processing, communication and social skills including Autism, Down Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy. iLs programs can also be applied for learning skills (building skills which enable success in school, performance optimization, psychological/emotional applications and rehabilitation (recovering energy and skills related to language, movement, and cognitive function after a stroke or head injury). http://www.integratedlistening.com
