VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Dec. 9, 2013) - As we all begin gearing up for the holiday season, BCLC wishes to share an important reminder that all lottery tickets, including scratch and wins, are appropriate only for players 19 years of age or older.
"Our Scratch & Win games are very popular gifts and stocking stuffers, but we remind everyone that these are a form of gambling and not child's play," said Paul Smith, BCLC Director of Corporate Social Responsibility. "In an effort to raise awareness and remind folks not to buy lottery tickets for children or youth, we are posting responsible giving messages at lottery retailers across the province during the peak holiday shopping season."
To encourage responsible play and responsible gift-giving, BCLC is sharing this message through online advertising, social media and a network of digital signage at more than 4,000 lottery retailers and B.C.'s 36 casinos and community gaming centres. BCLC joins gaming jurisdictions across North America and Europe who are also encouraging players to gamble responsibly and limit access to gambling products by minors.
"Any type of gambling should be viewed as an adult form of entertainment. Parents need to talk to their kids about the risks of gambling and do their part to prevent them from participating," added Smith.
Please visit www.gamesense.ca to learn more about the comprehensive programs in place to help players make informed choices about gambling. BCLC also encourages parents and other adults to access our GameSense for Parents program which gives parents tools and supports to start a conversation with kids about gambling.
BCLC is a provincial Crown Corporation that offers socially responsible gaming entertainment while generating income that benefits all British Columbians.
