Subsentio CTO/ Former FBI Asst. Director - Intelligence Marcus Thomas - Silicon Flatirons Panel on Sci-Fi and Surveillance Technology Friday, March 14 Live-Streamed 4:45 - 5:45PM MTN

DENVER, CO--(Marketwired - Mar 11, 2014) - We think they're out there. We suspect they're watching. Some believe they visit earth regularly. Is it possible that the worlds of sci-fi and technology have overlapped to produce today's most sophisticated techniques in surveillance and intelligence gathering?

"Technology and Surveillance - Is Resistance Futile?" is the subject of an expert panel discussion this Friday, March 14 at Silicon Flatirons, featuring Subsentio CTO and former FBI Assistant Director - Intelligence, Marcus Thomas. The event, sponsored by the University of Colorado Law School-Boulder, will be live-streamed beginning at 4:45 MTN.

Thomas joins fellow panelists Lori Emerson (UC Dept. of English), Dan Novy (MIT Media Lab) and Paul Ohm (UC - Law Professor) and will discuss the prescience of classic sci-fi literature in foretelling techniques now commercially available in some parts of planet Earth:

  • Social media monitoring apps that target keywords and trends, isolate threats, determine relationships and capture human "choke points" between users on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Google+
  • Dongles that penetrate a criminal or terrorist suspect's laptop or mobile device and enable law enforcement to hear, see and decrypt what is said or typed in real time, and modify files being downloaded, invisibly and unobtrusively
  • Voice biometrics tools that can identify a suspect in one or multiple conversations, even when the individual speaks a different language each time
  • Professional "Trojans" that can crack passwords and bypass anti-spyware and anti-virusware

EDITOR'S NOTE: Subsentio provides Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) solutions, operates strictly within the law -- and does not deal in any of the aforementioned intrusive surveillance techniques.
