Subsentio Names Joel M. Margolis Executive Vice President, Government Affairs


WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - Jan 27, 2014) - Subsentio, the first name in trusted third-party lawful intercept services, today announced the promotion of Joel M. Margolis to Executive Vice President, Government Affairs. Margolis was previously Senior Director, Government Affairs at Subsentio.

"In his new role, Joel will oversee state and federal policy related to court-ordered surveillance and privacy issues that impact Subsentio's customers, which include leading U.S. telecommunications and Internet companies, as well as a growing base of international carriers," said Steve Bock, President of Subsentio. "Joel will also play a direct role in planning Subsentio's strategic direction and positioning, and serve as lead counsel coordinating with federal government agencies, Congress, and trade associations."

Margolis is a frequent writer on policies of lawful surveillance, national security and privacy. He has delivered remarks on these issues at national conferences and his views have been quoted in the national press. A certified information privacy professional (CIPP-US), former registered lobbyist, and former holder of top-secret security clearance, Margolis has decades of experience in laws governing telecommunications carriers, Internet providers and other information and communications technology (ICT) entities.

Prior to joining Subsentio, Margolis was Assistant Deputy Chief Counsel for the U.S. Department of Justice/Drug Enforcement Administration, Chief Policy Advisor at SAIC, and Senior Corporate Counsel - Regulatory at Nextel Communications. Among his accomplishments at SAIC and DOJ, he initiated and co-authored the request for FCC rulemaking that extended the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) to certain VoIP and broadband access providers, an initiative credited with improving standards of public safety and privacy in Internet-based investigations. 

Margolis earned his JD from American University, Washington College of Law, and a BA in British History from the University of Michigan. He resides in Northern Virginia.
