Sudbury May Starts on Par with Last Year

GREATER SUDBURY, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 8, 2012) - According to preliminary data released today by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, there were 52 housing starts in the Greater Sudbury Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) in May, down 10.3 per cent from last May.

"Despite the slower May, the 52 total starts bring the year-to-date total in Sudbury to 94 units, even with 2011. The unit mix is shifting slightly to more high-density housing starts in light of rising prices, a trend happening elsewhere in the country," said Warren Philp, CMHC's Northern Ontario Market Analyst.
