Sudbury Rona Workers Ratify New Deal: 5-Day Lockout Ends

SUDBURY, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Nov. 16, 2015) - Members of the United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 175 working at Rona on Barrydowne Road in Sudbury ratified an agreement tonight, bringing an end to a five-day lockout by their employer.

"We are satisfied that this agreement meets the needs of our members including retaining their right to refuse Sunday work," explained Shawn Haggerty, President of UFCW Local 175. "The customers and community showed overwhelming support to these workers while they walked the picket line and that show of solidarity helped resolve this labour dispute quickly."

The tentative agreement was reached between the employer and the Union's negotiating committee this afternoon and members held a meeting in the evening to review the details. The memorandum of settlement was ratified unanimously.

UFCW Locals 175 & 633 represents 74,000 Union members working across Ontario.
