Sudbury Starts Weaker in the First Quarter


GREATER SUDBURY, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 11, 2012) - According to preliminary data released today by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, total housing starts in the Greater Sudbury Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) totaled 13 units in the first quarter down from 15 units started in the same period of 2011.

"Despite a milder winter than normal, only nine single-detached starts and four semi-detached homes got underway in the first three months of 2012 in Greater Sudbury. The thirteen units were nearly 70 per cent behind the average for the last five first quarters," said Warren Philp, CMHC's Northern Ontario Market Analyst.
