Summer course helps teachers to hone skills

ETFO offers professional upgrading courses Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Education Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - July 26, 2005) - Creating a classroom environment that promotes learning is every teacher's goal. Helping new teachers develop strategies to accomplish this objective is the focus of a summer course offered by the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO).

The course is one of a wide range of professional development opportunities offered this summer by ETFO in partnership with its locals across the province. Courses are taught by ETFO members and designed to provide teachers with practical skills and resources to use in their classrooms. Hundreds of elementary teachers are expected to take part.

Available courses include a women's leadership institute, principals' qualifications program, and credit courses.

What: Super Strategies for Surviving While Smiling

When: July 25, 26, and 27

Effective classroom and behaviour management promotes student learning. A teaching style that combines creativity and structure can help create an inviting classroom where students can achieve their maximum potential. This course is open to experienced teachers but may be of particular interest for teachers in their first few years of teaching.
