SUMMER IS COMING!

Unseasonably cold weather be damned; The Calgary Folk Music Festival gears up for its full lineup announcement April 23

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - March 31, 2014) - Help kick off the city's festival season when the Calgary Folk Music Festival reveals all about this year's exciting lineup in a mere three weeks.

More than 70 performers will join previously announced artists Andrew Bird & The Hands of Glory, Yamantaka//Sonic Titan, Basia Bulat, Fishbone, Jill Barber, A Tribe Called Red, The Lone Bellow and Trampled By Turtles - as well as the latest Leaks of the Week, acclaimed American singers and songwriters Amos Lee and Jason Isbell - during the four-day festival, July 24 - 27, 2014 at Prince's Island Park.

Known for his soulful, dusty voice, populist Americana and sophisticated songwriting, Amos Lee's music spans old-timey to reverential, soul to Appalachian. Lee has released five records on the venerable Blue Note label. A musician's favourite, respected vocalists Alison Krauss and Patty Griffin and others have collaborated with the Philadelphia-born singer.

Alabama native Jason Isbell has slowly but surely positioned himself as one of the new leading lights of the alt. country scene. As a former Drive By Trucker and with his barn-burning outfit, The 400 Unit, this dynamic guitarist and lyrical songwriter has established his brand of country, steeped in Southern twang and rebellion.

Celebrating 35 years of presenting creative, independent artists from around the world, the Calgary Folk Music Festival is one of the city's longest-running and most loved summer events, attracting more than 53,000 people annually.
