Summus Expands Into the Chinese Market With Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Content

Chinese Consumers Can Now Personalize Their Mobile Phone With Photographs From the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue

RALEIGH, NC -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 30, 2005 -- Summus, Inc. (OTC BB: SMMU), a leading provider of mobile media applications that optimize the consumer wireless experience, today announced that it has expanded distribution into the Chinese wireless market with its Sports Illustrated Swimsuit collection for the mobile phone.

This is the first of many potential content deals that Summus has secured for distribution in China. Summus has partnered with MTHREE, a China Unicom WAP service provider, to launch and distribute mobile content to the expansive Chinese market.

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit photographs are available immediately through China Unicom as well as to Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Shandong, He'nan, and Liaoning provinces. This distribution deal expands Summus' global distribution to one of the world's largest wireless carriers. China Unicom is one of the only two mobile licensed wireless carriers in China. In 2004, China Unicom boasted over 110 million subscribers, which makes it the second largest mobile operator in all of China.

The Chinese market has more mobile subscribers than any other market in the world. The Ministry of Information Industry predicts that China's mobile phone subscribers will increase from 330 million in 2004 to 402 million in 2005. The country is adding one million wireless users per day.

Chinese consumers will have the ability to purchase photos of their favorite Sports Illustrated Swimsuit models to save as wallpaper on the display of their mobile phone. New photographs of the "model of the month" will be available at the beginning of each month throughout the year. In addition, Chinese consumers can view and purchase photos that were the best and most widely purchased photos in 2004. Also, photographs from the 2005 Swimsuit Issue and the cover shot will be available to Chinese consumers.

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit content has seen tremendous success in the U.S., Canada and Latin America. The suite of mobile phone content is currently available on 20 carriers worldwide. In total, the product has generated over 2 million downloaded wallpaper images since the initial launch in March 2004. With the inclusion of carriers in the massive Chinese market, the downloads of the 2005 content have the potential to dwarf the amount of downloads achieved in 2004.

"The Chinese mobile market represents a sizable opportunity for Summus," said Gary Ban, CEO of Summus. "Our popular Sports Illustrated Swimsuit content for the mobile phone represents the first of several products that Summus will make available to this growing and lucrative market."

"We are pleased to work with Summus to offer the popular Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model photos to the Chinese mobile market. We expect that this popular content will be extremely well-received in China," said Eric Zhao, CEO of MTHREE. "We are working with Summus to import and launch the Company's various other high quality, branded mobile products into this exciting market."
