Sunbelt Software Releases Major Upgrade of CounterSpy Enterprise

New Version 2.0 Delivers "Hybrid" Antispyware Technology for Robust Protection Against Complex Malware Threats

CLEARWATER, FL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 18, 2007 -- Sunbelt Software, a leading provider of Windows security software, today announced the release of CounterSpy Enterprise™ version 2.0. The new version delivers "hybrid" antispyware technology that provides robust protection against complex malware threats to protect corporate environments. CounterSpy Enterprise delivers several new features, including VIPRE™ antimalware technology, FirstScan™ boot-level scanning, kernel-level Active Protection, automatic agent deployment, administrative console improvements, greater scalability and performance, and support for Windows Vista.

"CounterSpy Enterprise version 2.0 delivers protection against malware using a hybrid technology that merges the 'system cleaning' properties of traditional antispyware products with the efficiency of powerful antivirus-based technology," said Alex Eckelberry, president of Sunbelt Software. "With a definition database that includes over 750,000 threat traces, continued enterprise enhancements, and our new Active Protection™ technology, enterprise customers will find that CounterSpy Enterprise delivers the most powerful enterprise antispyware product available."

"Hybrid" antispyware scanning and removal engine with VIPRE technology

CounterSpy Enterprise is powered by a hybrid engine that merges classic spyware detection and remediation with Sunbelt's VIPRE technology (Virus Intrusion Protection Remediation Engine). VIPRE incorporates both traditional antivirus and cutting-edge antimalware techniques. This combination of technologies provides faster scanning and requires less system resources than the previous version while delivering more effective detection and remediation of today's increasingly complex and blended threats.

FirstScan is CounterSpy Enterprise's new scan and remove on-boot technology designed specifically to detect and remove the most deeply embedded malware. Triggered through a CounterSpy Enterprise system scan, FirstScan will run at the system's boot time, bypassing the Windows operating system, to directly scan certain locations of the hard drive for malware, removing infections where found.

Kernel-level active protection

CounterSpy Enterprise's Active Protection has been completely replaced with a new kernel-level component. The new system offers signature, behavioral and heuristic-based real-time blocking of threats while providing the option to prompt the user to take action if suspicious behavior is detected. Additionally, administrators can create their own custom list of allowed and denied applications. CounterSpy Enterprise's Active Protection works seamlessly with existing desktop antivirus solutions, providing enterprises with the ability to implement full antispyware and antivirus threat coverage on their desktop systems.

Improved agent scanning technology

CounterSpy Enterprise's agent scanning engine automatically scans user machines for spyware threats and leverages the Checkmark-certified antispyware technology found in CounterSpy's current consumer version. Additionally, agents can now connect via the Internet to Sunbelt Software's servers to obtain definition updates if their CounterSpy Enterprise server is unreachable. Advanced scheduling options now allow agents to start scans at randomized times and make up for missed scheduled scans. With a new agent user interface, end users can stop and start scans and manage their own quarantine at the discretion of the administrator.

Automatic deployment functionality

CounterSpy Enterprise now allows for automatic deployment of agents to the network. Enabled at the policy level, this feature allows the administrator to specify any combination of machine lists, IP addresses, IP ranges, IP subnets, and Active Directory Organizational Units (OUs) to be resolved and deployed to without admin interaction. The traditional methods of deployment such as console push and MSI packages are still included.

Improved administrative console

The administrative console for CounterSpy Enterprise has been improved to include more agent information. Administrators can see at-a-glance when an agent last scanned a system and print from any of the customizable agent grids. The console-to-server communication has also been improved and optimized to respond more quickly under heavy usage.

Greater scalability and performance

The services for CounterSpy Enterprise have been consolidated into a single process, improving performance while decreasing the memory and CPU requirements. Additionally, the new service has been ported over to .NET 2.0 which also increases efficiency. The new CounterSpy Enterprise server component is backward compatible with the older 1.5 and 1.8 agents, allowing agent upgrades to be done in stages.

Support for Windows Vista 32-bit

CounterSpy Enterprise provides full support for 32-bit versions of Windows Vista both for the console and agents. 64-bit support will follow shortly.

Pricing and availability

CounterSpy Enterprise is priced aggressively for all corporate environments and includes one year of support, updates, and product upgrades. The upgrade to CounterSpy Enterprise version 2.0 is free to all existing customers of CounterSpy Enterprise who are currently under a maintenance plan. New customers can purchase CounterSpy Enterprise on a per machine basis. Pricing includes the first year maintenance and starts at $155.00 for 5 machines with a sliding scale discount based on number of machines.
