Suncor Energy's contract worker residence reopens

Fort McMurray, Alberta (February 15, 2007) — Suncor Energy today reopened its contract worker residence (Borealis Lodge) after it was closed on February 12 due to an interruption in water supply.

During the closure, some workers were relocated to other temporary accommodation in the area while others were told not to report to work at Suncor because of the housing shortage.

With the residence re-opened, work impacted by the housing shortage is resuming. Shifts for contractors working on the Millennium Coker Unit project will fully resume on Friday, February 16 with buses from Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary starting to transport workers to the site today.

"We want to thank our friends at Syncrude and CNRL who pitched in to relocate our workers to their camps — they really went above and beyond to help us handle this very challenging situation," says Brenda Erskine, director, community relations. "We know the camp closure and subsequent cancellation of some shifts created significant inconvenience for construction workers. Suncor thanks them for their patience and cooperation."

The impact on the overall Millennium Coker Unit project schedule is not expected to be significant.

Suncor's neighbouring Millennium Lodge and worker residences at Firebag were not affected by this closure. Suncor's regular operational workforce and day-to-day operations were also unaffected.
