Sunday Afternoon Rally on Highway 117 to Save Shawbridge Bridge

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Aug. 14, 2008) - To save Shaw's bridge from demolition, citizens of Prevost in the Laurentians will walk the 2 km. detour by the 117 bridge recommended by Transport Quebec.

Since the complete shutdown of the bridge that gave its name to the town of Shawbridge, people have to use another bridge that is too narrow and has no walkway for pedestrians. All along the detour there are no sidewalks nor paved shoulders. Transport Quebec had not taken minimal steps to make the detour safe until the story made its way to TV last week; even now there is still no walkway on their bridge.

This peaceful march will demonstrate the need and the urgency to reopen Shaw's bridge, a vital link between two important parts of our town : Shawbridge and Old Prevost. The march will start at the old Shawbridge train station in Prevost, this Sunday at 3 pm.
