What is the single biggest investment in your life? It's a silly question, really, because for the majority of us the answer is simple: our home. When it comes to buying and selling in today's market, people are taking matters into their own hands. We are researching, searching and negotiating like never before. And of course we are doing it all ONLINE!

Lee Redwood, an agent with many years of experience and Andrew Brest, a technology and marketing consultant, are owners and creators of the online real estate service, They want to share with you how the Internet and social media have changed the real estate industry and how you can use it to make that big investment much less stressful.

1. House hunting is right at your fingertips. is now open for all to see and with easy enhancements like video tours, pictures and room dimensions, dreams of our perfect home start to unfold as we surf, scroll and watch.

2. Finding the perfect match makes all the difference. In the past, buyers and sellers relied on referrals and lawn signs to find their agent. Today, more and more people are turning to the web to find a REALTOR® who meets their needs.

(Hey, if we can do it to find a partner we can certainly do it to find an agent, right?) And where do they go to find that fit?, a site where that first meeting is about home ownership and not matchmaking.

3. A Googling we will go. People are taking the time to learn more and more about the market and where they want to live. They hunt for the best interest rates on their mortgage, go online to research which neighbourhoods meet their needs and they are looking at websites, learning to stage their own homes. Buyers and sellers are taking control with their web-savvy skills.

4. Disillusioned with the REALTOR®. It's no secret that REALTORS® make a commission from the sale of your home. However, when the home sells within 48 hours but the commission rate remains the same, we can't help but scratch our heads and wonder - how much did that cost me? Rather than going the "for sale by owner" route, buyers and sellers now negotiate with agents and ask for reduced commission rates or rebates, depending on our own particular situation and needs.

5. Finding the perfect balance. As we search websites, read blogs and explore social-networking sites, we are learning agents don't have to do it all. Some of us want the agent to do everything – from house hunting to finding a mortgage broker to recommending a moving company. On the other hand, we see people who simply want the knowledge and expertise of a REALTOR® at closing, and prefer to do the rest on their own. The Internet has helped to educate buyers and sellers, and enabled them to set the terms of the relationship and find that perfect balance.

Andrew and Lee would be happy to speak to you in-depth and discuss the evolution of real estate and how the Internet is making the process easier and more profitable for both homebuyers and sellers.
