SunGen Sustainable Developments Secures Key Relationships in the Competitive Geothermal Utility Market Place

VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - March 1, 2007) -

A hot bed of "green construction" activity, is home to a new player in the renewable energy marketplace, SunGen Sustainable Developments Inc. SunGen is the brain child of two entrepreneurs, Erik Lindquist and Mark Jennings-Bates who have a desire to bring green energy solutions to developers in an affordable and sustainable manner.

In 2006 they created SunGen, www.sungen.ca, with a goal to promote district geothermal heating and cooling solutions in large-scale residential and commercial developments. In essence, SunGen takes a full-life cycle view of both the capital costs and the operating costs of a project thereby offering a financial solution for developers who are finding the initial cost of geothermal too expensive in this period of escalating construction costs.

"We have the ability to provide turnkey geothermal solutions to developers, that are significantly less expensive than traditional HVAC solutions over the life of the development. Also, included with a SunGen solution is a comprehensive warranty and operational guarantee. The additional environmental benefit to a geothermal solution is that there is a reduction on average of 2-4 tonnes per year of CO2 emissions per residential dwelling," said Erik Lindquist, President of SunGen.

SunGen has formed a relationship with Taylor NGL Limited Partnership, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. Taylor owns and operates energy infrastructure in Western Canada. "SunGen is a natural partner for Taylor given that our business goals are very much aligned," said Terry Killackey, Vice President of Business Development for Taylor, adding, "We hope to develop this partnership into a position of leadership in the sustainable energy marketplace."

SunGen has received tremendous interest in their district heating model from communities such as Mount Baldy in Oliver B.C. "It makes sense for us in the early stages of our resort development to look at incorporating geothermal district heating and cooling solutions for our resort community. With the current understanding of global climate change and its potential impact on tourism and recreation, it behooves us to look at green solutions, such as SunGen's geothermal utility. We have the potential to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 15,000 vehicles per year, benefiting our individual customers and future homeowners," said Brett Sweezy, President of the Mount Baldy Ski Resort.
