Sungrow Power Supply Company Limited, a global leader in solar photovoltaic inverters, celebrated the grand opening of its North American headquarters on March 31, 2011, with approximately 150 honoured guests and customers.

The new company, Sungrow Canada Inc (SCI), is a joint venture between Sungrow and HiFi Solar Energy Ltd, a Canadian corporation pursuing solar power development and manufacturing in North America.

Minister of Energy Brad Duguid, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua of the City of Vaughan and Consul General Chen Ligang of the People's Republic of China were among the distinguished guests invited to speak at the ceremony.

The grand opening included a signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between SCI and PowerStream, Ontario's second largest electricity distribution company, to jointly promote solar power development.

SCI is the North American headquarters of Sungrow with comprehensive manufacturing, R&D and technical support capabilities. SCI plans on investing $10 million in Ontario in the next few years, including $5 million in the first phase to set up inverter assembling and testing lines that will create up to 50 jobs in SCI's Vaughan facility.

SCI's 25,000 square-feet facility has an annual production capacity of 200 megawatts of solar inverters. The testing machines designed and supplied by Sungrow are among the best in the industry, including solar photovoltaic system simulators and an enclosed temperature adjustment room to perform various functional tests of inverter efficiency, reliability, durability and safety protection features. All products are fully redesigned and certified for the Canadian and U.S markets. The first models are 100kW, 250kW and 500kW inverters.

Founded in 1997, Sungrow is the largest solar photovoltaic inverter manufacturer in China. In 2010, Sungrow sold more than 540 megawatts of solar inverters globally with nearly 50 percent domestic market share in China and over 60 percent of sales shipped to the European market.

Today, Sungrow has more than 600 employees worldwide, mostly in China, and annual sales of nearly 100 million U.S. dollars. The company is building a new facility in Hefei, China, and will reach three gigawatts by the end of 2012. Within five years, the company is aiming to become a top five supplier of solar PV inverters in the world. The establishment of SCI as its North American headquarters is one important milestone towards achieving this goal.
