Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre: Make This Remembrance Day Truly Canadian Raise a Flag to Support a Veteran

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 21, 2013) - Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre announces today the launch of Operation Raise a Flag, a unique campaign that encourages the public to honour and support Canada's war veterans.

"By purchasing a Canadian flag and sending a personalized heartfelt message of thanks to our veterans, Canadians of all ages can be a hero to our heroes, said Dr. Barry McLellan, President and CEO at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. The power of remembrance should never be underestimated and we must never forget. Operation Raise a Flag is dedicated to those who gave so much for the cause of peace and freedom. Our veterans need your support today more than ever."

In the early morning hours of November 11th, thousands of Canadian flags will be planted on the lawns in front of Sunnybrook Veterans Centre to honour Canadian veterans for their service and sacrifices. When veterans awake on Remembrance Day, there will be a sea of red and white flags in a magnificent tribute and show of appreciation, from Canadians far and wide who have not forgotten their courageous contributions.

Sunnybrook Veterans Centre is the largest veterans care facility in Canada and home to five hundred (500) veterans, who served in the Second World War and the Korean War. They answered the call of duty and they stood on guard for thee, so that all Canadians may enjoy peace and freedom today.

Flags are available in two sizes for a modest $25 or $50 donation. Be a hero to our heroes, and say, "Thank You" to Canada's cherished veterans. To purchase a flag and take part in Operation Raise a Flag please visit www.raiseaflag.ca.

Proceeds from the campaign will go to the Veterans Comfort Fund at the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre. This fund provides veteran residents with things such as computers, community outings, and continued learning opportunities, all in an effort to enable Veterans to attain the best possible life experience while at Sunnybrook.
