Sunridge Announces Drill Results and Start of Scoping Study on Debarwa Copper/Gold Project, Eritrea

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - May 23, 2006) - Sunridge Gold Corp. (TSX VENTURE:SGC) is pleased to announce assay results from sixty-five additional drill holes from the Debarwa copper/gold volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) project, part of the Asmara Project, Eritrea. The objective of recent drilling has been to better define the known mineralization on Debarwa Main and South deposits, with a specific focus on the near surface oxide gold zone, as well as to establish continuity along strike between the two deposits. Debarwa is one of four known areas of significant VMS and gold mineralization within the 1,100 square kilometre Asmara Project.

In addition, in order to fast-track the high-grade copper/zinc/gold VMS deposits on the Asmara into production as soon as possible, Sunridge has notified Beacon Hill Consultants Ltd. that Sunridge intends to go straight to the more advanced Preliminary Assessment study (Scoping Study) for the Debarwa copper/gold project and to omit the Conceptual Mining study stage that commenced at Debarwa in November 2005. In addition, the Adi Nefas zinc/gold/copper deposit that is located approximately 35 kilometres north of Debarwa will be included in this study.

Highlights of Debarwa Drilling Results:

- DEBD-064 - 1.50 metres averaging 47.77 g/t gold

- DEBD-073 - 23.00 metres averaging 2.88 g/t gold

- DEBD-076 - 21.25 metres averaging 3.46 g/t gold

- DEBD-077 - 14.00 metres averaging 2.76 g/t gold

- DEBR-162-D - 2.59 metres averaging 4.34% copper

- DEBR-164-D -36.50 metres averaging 2.19 g/t gold and 3.05% copper

Debarwa Main:

Drilling at Debarwa Main has concentrated on defining the near surface gold oxide zone at approximately 20 metre drill hole spacing. These results confirm the potential for open pit mining of the gold oxide zone prior to accessing the very high-grade copper supergene zone that underlies the oxide zone and the primary zinc zone that underlies the copper supergene zone. The topography of Debarwa Main is very favorable to open pit mining and there is excellent infrastructure.

Details of significant mineralized intervals are as follows in the near-surface oxide zone (O), the underlying copper-rich supergene zone (S), and intervals that penetrated both zones (O/S).

Debarwa South:

The majority of drilling at Debarwa south focused on the near surface oxide zone and the copper supergene zone with results demonstrating the potential to add tonnage to the planned open pit mining at Debarwa Main.

Details of significant mineralized intervals are as follows in the near-surface oxide zone (O), the underlying copper-rich supergene zone (S), and the deeper primary mineralization (P).

Debarwa Extension between Main and South Zones

These drill results continue to show that there is significant mineralization, although narrower, along strike between Debarwa Main and Debarwa South and demonstrates the potential to add tonnage to Debarwa.

Details of significant mineralized intervals are as follows in the near-surface oxide zone (O), the underlying copper-rich supergene zone (S), intervals that penetrated both zones (O/S) and the deeper primary mineralization (P).

As part of the program to fast-track the Debarwa and Adi Nefas projects into production as soon as possible environmental baseline studies have been initiated by "Global Resources Development Management Consultants" on both projects. This work includes collection of data on climate, groundwater, air quality, vegetation and wildlife as well as socio-economic baseline data.
