Sunshine Village Ski and Snowboard Resort: April's 150-cm Snowfall Sets 41-Year Record

BANFF, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - May 3, 2011) - April at Alberta's largest ski and snowboard resort is one for the history books, in both the most snowfall in 41 years of record-keeping and in terms of attendance.

April saw a total of 150 cm of snowfall, smashing the previous number of 138 cm recorded in 2008 and double the April average.

Since Jan. 1, more than 21 feet of fresh snow have covered Sunshine's slopes. The resort has announced that Goat's Eye Mountain is predicted to stay in operation until the May long weekend, as will Sunshine's famous five-km ski-out. (Both are weather dependent.)

The settled snow pack is still a mid-season-like 218 cm.

The great conditions have delivered not only great weekly attendance on the mountain (precise numbers are not released), but also strong sales in Spring Passes and Early Bird 2011-12 season passes.

"We are really gratified by the support from people in the Bow Valley, Calgary and indeed all of Alberta," says Doug Firby, associate director of Communications for Sunshine.

The mountain remains wide open, with all named runs open, including the world-famous free-ride terrain Delirium Dive and Wild West.

Sunshine's second outdoor live show is coming up this weekend, May 7^th and 8^th, featuring Country up-and-comer Adam Gregory. That's followed by Country's George Canyon the weekend of the May 14^th and 15^th, and wraps up with the Slush Cup weekend, named as Canada's best end-of-season party, on May 21, 22 and 23. The 23^rd is the big day when thousands gather to watch the brave and hardy attempt to ski across a massive pond of ice water.
