Suntron Corporation Announces Dedication to North American Manufacturing

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwire - Nov 30, 2011) - Suntron Corporation, a leading supplier of electronics manufacturing services and embedded computing solutions, recently renewed its commitment to local manufacturing development at the North American Competitiveness Conference. Along with fellow California-Baja manufacturers Toyota, Kyocera, Goodrich, and Eaton, Suntron called for increased investment in local Mexican and Californian suppliers.

Suntron operates a 79,000 sq. ft. facility in Tijuana, which specializes in high mix, high reliability electronics manufacturing services for a variety of industries. The plant employs over 400 people, many of whom have been with the company since Suntron first expanded to Tijuana in 1999.

"We need to be able to bring a supply chain closer to home," said Rod Gunther, plant manager for Suntron de Mexico in Tijuana. The Baja California maquiladora sector purchases about $13 billion in parts and services each year, but many of those come from outside the area. Facilities like Suntron's Tijuana plant, which is ITAR registered, AS9100 and ISO 13485 certified, require top-tier parts to maintain the high reliability that they provide for the aerospace, medical, and defense markets.

Suntron remains committed to the expansion and development of local suppliers. "We would obviously prefer to purchase our parts from local suppliers," said Marco Santiago, supply chain manager for the Tijuana facility. "We have a truly exceptional workforce in this region, hard-working and highly skilled, and it would be better for us, both as a company and as a part of the Baja California community, if we could develop high-tech suppliers closer to home."
