Sunwing Is Pleased to Add Direct Flights From Windsor to Cancun, Mexico Next Winter

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - April 20, 2015) - Mexico's flagship resort area, Riviera Maya, will become a short flight away next winter for residents of Southwestern Ontario, as Sunwing adds direct flights from Windsor to Cancun, beginning December 21, 2015.

The new route will be the only option to fly direct to Cancun from Windsor. On their way to this popular Mexican destination, passengers will be able to start off their vacation in style with a welcome glass of sparkling wine, complimentary Hot & Fresh Bistro Meals™ served with wine, and in-flight entertainment as part of the airline's award-winning Champagne Service. And unlike many other airlines, Sunwing also includes free checked baggage with a generous 20kg allowance.

Cancun is the gateway to the fabulous Riviera Maya region, which stretches down the sparkling coastline for 150 km to Tulum. One of the leading tourism destinations in the Americas, the region is not only home to fabulous resorts, but is also a top ecotourism destination with lots to see and do for all ages at local eco parks -- from snorkelling to horseback riding. This is also the land of the Mayans and there are many places to visit to see glimpses into this ancient civilization.

"We are delighted to offer this new Sunwing service directly out of Windsor as an extension to our regular program of winter flights that has been in operation here since 2010," said Andrew Dawson, Chief Operating Officer, Sunwing Travel Group. "This will be the first season that we are able to operate flights to three different destinations from Windsor and we feel that Riviera Maya is a great addition to the flying schedule. We look forward to welcoming vacationers from Southwestern Ontario to our recently opened Sunwing exclusive resorts in the area."

Drew Dilkens, Mayor of the City of Windsor and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Windsor International Airport added, "The launch of the Cancun service is an important step in the growth of our airport.

"Windsor Airport currently serves 252,000 passengers per year, and 2014 marked the third straight year in which our airport set a new passenger record. We are committed to continually expanding our range of air service to new destinations.

"With a Cancun service added to the mix, Windsor and Essex residents will no longer have to make the long trek to Toronto, or negotiate an extra border-crossing into the U.S. We will be able to fly directly to Cancun from YQG with all the ease, comfort and convenience we have come to appreciate when using Windsor International Airport," said Dilkens.
