Super Bowl XLV Wins 'Top Event' Title on TicketNews' January Rankings

VERNON, CT--(Marketwire - February 3, 2011) - Super Bowl XLV is days away, and anticipation for the game is predictably high. Ticket sales for the NFL title game brought it to the top of TicketNews' exclusive Event Rankings for the month, compiled from January 1-31.

The 2011 Super Bowl will be played at Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX -- a first since the new stadium opened in 2009. It will be an historic match-up of the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers, two storied franchises with a combined nine Super Bowl championships. The teams' winning histories and strong fan bases have helped increase demand for tickets to the game.

Two newly announced tours also managed to take an early lead in January's rankings. Katy Perry announced her summer tour plans in late January, and early sales for the tour catapulted the pop star to a No. 4 overall finish for the month. The 38-date schedule begins June 7 at the Gwinnett Center Arena in Duluth, GA. Around the same time, Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks announced the Heart & Soul Tour. Initial ticket sales for the 13-date North American trek have landed the iconic co-headliners at No. 5 in TicketNews' January rankings.

Events to Watch for February:

  • Janet Jackson's first tour in three years had a strong debut in the rankings, finishing at No. 14 for January. Expect to see a steady interest in tickets as the tour's March 3 start-date approaches.
  • Major League Baseball teams begin Spring Training later this month, resulting in growing anticipation for the upcoming season's game tickets. Teams like the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees may make an early appearance in the February rankings.
  • The 2011 NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles has topped the weekly event rankings and is expected to do well in next month's overall stats. The game goes down February 20 at the Staples Center.
