Support for Quebec Communities: Government of Canada Funds Five Projects in the Pontiac RCM

Outaouais organizations and municipalities will be able to improve their community halls and offer citizens safer and more functional facilities better suited to their needs


SHAWVILLE, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - July 6, 2015) - Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, Jacques Gourde, Member of Parliament for Lotbinière-Chutes-de-la-Chaudière and Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, for Official Languages and for the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, announces funding for five projects being carried out by municipalities and organizations in the Regional County Municipality (RCM) of Pontiac. These projects have to do with the renovation and modernization of community halls.

This support, granted in the form of five non-repayable financial contributions totalling $76,207, has been awarded through the Local Investment Initiative (LII), a component of CED's Quebec Economic Development Program.

  • The funding will enable the municipalities of Campbell's Bay, L'Isle-aux-Allumettes and Shawville as well as Bryson Lions Club and the Harrington Community Center in L'Isle-aux-Allumettes to renovate buildings housing local community halls.
  • These projects will lead to a better use of available space and improved services to users, thereby promoting the development of community-oriented activities.
  • The LII, a temporary initiative specific to CED, helps promote economic development capacity-building for the long-term benefit of Quebec communities.
  • This initiative stimulates local investment while ensuring citizens have access to safer and more functional community halls that are better suited to their needs.
