Supporting Classical Music in New Brunswick

Government of Canada provides funding in support of Symphony New Brunswick

SAINT JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwired - April 14, 2015) - Department of Canadian Heritage
Rodney Weston, Member of Parliament (Saint John), on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced that Symphony New Brunswick is benefiting from a boost of $143,571 to its fundraising efforts through the Symphony New Brunswick Foundation.

The Government of Canada is providing funds to the Symphony New Brunswick Foundation to manage and invest on behalf of Symphony New Brunswick through the Endowment Incentives component of the Canada Cultural Investment Fund, which encourages Canadians to donate to professional arts organizations.

  • Symphony New Brunswick's seven core musicians offer a full range of chamber music recitals in Saint John, Moncton and Fredericton, as well as taking part in the Symphony's school and community outreach programs. Symphony New Brunswick's new chamber orchestra, Camerata New Brunswick, performs in smaller New Brunswick communities-this season in Woodstock, Shediac and Rothesay.
  • A large number of school and other educational outreach concerts are presented every season. In the 2014-15 season, the Symphony's musicians expect to entertain an estimated 6,000 school children.
  • Since 2006-07, the Endowment Incentives component has provided more than $151 million to various endowment funds in Canada, while the private sector has provided $204 million, for a total of over $355 million.
  • This year, the Government of Canada is matching 97 cents for every dollar donated by the private sector through the Endowment Incentives component.
