Supporting Electronic and Digital Arts in Montreal

Government of Canada supports two events devoted to electronic and digital arts


MONTRÉAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - April 9, 2014) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Government of Canada has provided $45,000 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund for the 2nd edition of the Biennale internationale d'art numérique (BIAN) and the 15th edition of the Elektra Festival. This was announced today by Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages Shelly Glover.

This funding will be used to present programming for these two events, including exhibits, concerts, and a range of public awareness activities, especially for young people.

  • The 2nd Biennale international de l'art numérique will take place from May 1 to June 19, 2014. The 15th Elektra Festival is being held from May 27 to June 1.
  • BIAN and Elektra 2014 aim to offer audiences in Montréal a wide range of artistic experiences related to new technologies, and to help featured works and artists receive local, national, and international recognition. BIAN is devoted to works of digital art, while the Elektra Festival highlights the interaction between sound and visual.
  • Artists participating in BIAN / Elektra 2014 will come from Canada and abroad, including Belgium, Korea, Denmark, Spain, France, Japan, and Portugal. Activities will be held at a number of Montréal venues, including Usine C, the Cinémathèque québécoise, the Musée d'art contemporain, the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts, VOX, and the PHI Centre.
  • The Association pour la création et la recherche électroacoustiques du Québec has organized the Elektra Festival every year since 1999 and BIAN since 2012.
