Sail Canada receives Government of Canada funding


HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - Aug. 18, 2014) - Canadian Heritage

On behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Gerald Keddy, Member of Parliament (South Shore-St. Margaret's), today announced $100,000 in funding for Sail Canada. This funding, provided through Sport Canada's Hosting Program, supports the High Liner Foods International Association for Disabled Sailing (IFDS) World Championships 2014.

The Championships are being held from August 15 to 24, 2014, at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron in Halifax.

  • The High Liner Foods IFDS Worlds 2014 are a qualifier for the athletes looking to be a part of Team Canada at the 2016 Paralympic Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
  • Sport Canada's Sport Support Program will provide up to $1,114,000 to Sail Canada during the 2014-2015 fiscal year.
  • Sport Canada's Athlete Assistance Program provided almost $620,000 to 50 sailing athletes to assist with living, training, tuition and special needs expenses in 2013-2014.
  • Sail Canada is the national governing body for the sport of sailing. The association promotes sailing and power boating through collaboration with its partners, the provincial sailing associations, member clubs, schools and many individual stakeholders.
