Supporting the Coupe Banque Nationale International Tennis Tournament

Tennis Canada receives Government of Canada funding

QUÉBEC CITY, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - Sept. 8, 2014) - Canadian Heritage

On behalf of the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), the Honourable Michel Rivard, Senator (Les Laurentides), today announced $50,000 in funding for Tennis Canada through Sport Canada's Hosting Program to support the Coupe Banque Nationale.

The 22nd edition of the Coupe Banque Nationale is being held from September 6 to 14, 2014, at the Pavillon de l'Éducation physique et des sports at Université Laval in Québec City.

  • The Coupe Banque Nationale is an international tournament sanctioned by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). It is one of Quebec's and Canada's most prestigious women's tennis events.
  • Sport Canada's Sport Support Program will provide up to $885,500 to Tennis Canada during the 2014-2015 fiscal year.
  • Sport Canada's Athlete Assistance Program provided almost $200,000 to 19 tennis athletes to assist with living, training, tuition and special needs expenses in 2013-2014.
  • Tennis Canada is the national governing body for the sport of tennis. It is a member of the International Tennis Federation, the Canadian Olympic Committee, the Canadian Paralympic Committee and the International Wheelchair Tennis Association.
