Government of Canada provides funding to the Station Arts Centre

SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - March 16, 2015) - Department of Canadian Heritage

Maurice Vellacott, Member of Parliament (Saskatoon-Wanuskewin), on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced that the Station Arts Centre Co-operative will benefit from a boost of $3,652 to its fundraising efforts through the Saskatoon Community Foundation.

The Government of Canada is providing this funding to the Saskatoon Community Foundation to manage and invest on behalf of the Station Arts Centre through the Endowment Incentives component of the Canada Cultural Investment Fund, which encourages Canadians to donate to professional arts organizations.

  • This year, the Station Arts Centre is celebrating 25 years of artistic programming.
  • The Station Arts Centre has its home in a renovated CN Railway station in Rosthern, Saskatchewan. It serves as a performing arts venue and offers outreach activities, youth programming and summer theatre productions.
  • With this latest grant, the Station Arts Centre will have received a total of $54,652 in grants, matching $67,701 in private-sector donations to its endowment fund.
  • Since 2006-2007, the Endowment Incentives component has provided more than $151 million to various endowment funds in Canada, while the private sector has provided $204 million, for a total of over $355 million.
  • This year, the Government of Canada is matching 97 cents for every dollar donated by the private sector through the Endowment Incentives component.
