Survey Reveals Unexpected User Demographics

Recently-Released Data Shows Older Adults Access Toolbar Amenities Most Often

BELLEVUE, WA--(Marketwire - July 17, 2007) - Debunking stereotypical notions about the identity of "average" consumers of online emoticons, screensavers and other toolbar amenities, statistics from Zango, an online media company, indicate that adults age 45 and older are the most prolific users of such personalization-focused products.

Personalization tools are just a sampling of the growing online content catalog of more than 100,000 pieces of digital content, including tens of thousands of videos, hundreds of games, music, utilities and more, that consumers can access for free through Zango's desktop advertising products. The mean age of a Zango consumer is 28, while 37 percent are between the ages of 25-44 with the split between male and female at 59 percent compared to 41 percent respectively.

The Zango survey -- conducted among Zango toolbar users aged 18 and older in the U.S., U.K., Australia and Canada -- yielded other interesting findings as well, including:

--  41 percent of users are age 45 and older, with 45- to 54-year-olds
    representing highest usage.
--  Emoticons are by far the most popular amenity, with 50 percent
    of users citing regular usage; e-mail backgrounds (26 percent),
    screensavers (24 percent), weather tools (24 percent) and e-cards (21
    percent) round out the Top 5 most popular products.
--  79 percent of users download the online tools from home.
--  Males are more likely to download weather tools and screensavers,
    whereas females favor emoticons and e-cards.
--  The majority of users (67 percent) are female.

According to Zango President Daniel Todd, the data regarding user age indicates the need to adjust previously held notions. "We tend to associate Internet usage in general, and our products in particular, with younger consumers," he said. "These statistics, however, disprove that concept and demonstrate, like with casual gaming, the impact middle-aged adults -- particularly women -- have in the online economy."
