Sustainable Energy Previews PARALEX™ Operating System in Madrid

MADRID, SPAIN--(Marketwire - May 13, 2009) - Sustainable Energy Technologies Ltd (TSX VENTURE:STG) Sustainable Energy Technologies ("Sustainable Energy" or the "Company") today launched its "PARALEX™" massively parallel operating system for Spanish thin film PV systems at the Genera '09, Trade Show in Madrid, Spain.

A video (in Spanish) describing the benefits of the PARALEX operating system can be viewed at or via the PARALEX website

Taking advantage of SET's low voltage inverter technology, the array architecture used in PARALEX™ systems offers 5 - 15% improved energy yield per kW installed, through the elimination of panel mismatch losses and reduction of partial shading losses. Installers across Spain can now take advantage of the simplicity, flexibility, and consistently high energy yield of PARALEX systems.

Information sessions for installers and project developers will be scheduled in summer, 2009.

PARALEX™ systems use a selection of approved compatible components including modules, inverters, and cable. PARALEX™ is currently working with distributors to expand the availability of PARALEX compatible products for installers in all regions of Spain. Distributors who are interested in offering equipment for PARALEX™ systems are encouraged to contact the company for a list of manufacturers and models of approved "Paralex Compatible" products.

PARALEX™ systems use thin film modules which produce more power per kW installed compared to crystalline technologies. The improved light sensitivity of thin film modules means that optimum alignment to the sun is not necessary. Modules can be installed flush with rooftops to reduce the cost of racking, make optimum use of space, and improve aesthetics. "What we are learning is that ParalexTM is effectively tipping the scale for thin film manufacturers in their battle to gain market share against traditional poly crystalline technology," remarked David Carten, Vice President.

With the PARALEX™ operating system, 100% of the PV modules are wired in parallel. The parallel array architecture is enabled by Sustainable Energy's proprietary low voltage inverter technology which is optimized for thin film panels. The elimination of high DC array voltages also provides an important safety benefit to installation and maintenance crews.

About PARALEX: PARALEX is a brand of Sustainable Energy Technologies, representing the massively parallel thin film systems enabled by our proprietary inverter technology. PARALEX solar power systems are now available in Spain.

About Sustainable Energy: Based in Calgary, Canada, Sustainable ( designs, manufactures and distributes power inverters for grid-connected solar PV systems. Advanced power inverters are a critical enabler of all modern solar PV power systems converting the direct current ("DC") power output of the solar PV modules into the high quality alternating current ("AC") power required by the power grid. Advanced power inverters also optimize the performance of the solar PV modules and maintain the integrity and safety of the interconnection with the power grid.

Sustainable Energy has developed and patented an inverter design which is a breakthrough in solar inverter technology. It is the only inverter design which allows grid connected solar PV systems to be designed using a "massively parallel" architecture with an industry standard form factor and with electrical conversion efficiencies that meet or exceed industry leaders.

Sustainable Energy's technologies are the subject of 9 patents issued by the US Patent Office with further patents pending.
