Sustainable Spaces Names Joel Truher VP of Product Development

Google Veteran to Spearhead Development of Information Platform

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - February 24, 2009) - Sustainable Spaces, a San Francisco-based home performance contractor and national leader in the growing field of home health and energy efficiency, today announced it has hired engineering veteran Joel Truher as the company's first vice president of Product Development. Truher brings more than 15 years of engineering experience to this newly created position.

At Sustainable Spaces, Truher will be responsible for building the company's new information platform. Since its founding in 2004, Sustainable Spaces has tracked and catalogued data from more than 1000 home energy audits and home performance retrofitting projects. By creating a comprehensive database of problems, solutions and results, the company will have the most up-to-date and reliable information for making homes energy efficient, healthy, and comfortable. This information platform will be the basis for enabling the profitable growth of the home performance industry across the country.

"I am very pleased to be joining Sustainable Spaces, a company that has truly set the bar when it comes to finding practical solutions and tackling the energy issues facing us," said Truher. "I'm looking forward to creating a platform that will scale up our business to serve a significantly greater number of customers and help them to reduce not just their energy bills by an average of 40%, but also their total carbon output."

"We could not be happier that Joel has joined the Sustainable Spaces team," said Pratap Mukherjee, CEO of Sustainable Spaces. "He has an incredible track record of success when it comes to developing world class search and information technology products. Combining this with his passion for solving our world's energy crises, Joel is the ideal person to leverage the company's information assets into a platform to enable national impact."

Truher joins Sustainable Spaces from Google, the world's largest online search company, where he was engineering director. At Google, he worked on search and maps infrastructure.

Prior to Google, Truher was executive vice president at Epinions.com, where he oversaw all product development. When Epinions.com became a part of Shopping.com, Truher became chief architect and vice president of Engineering, responsible for all search and user-facing website technology. Before joining Epinions.com, Truher held the position of chief technology officer at Lycos, where he led the team responsible for search engine products and research.

Truher received his master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and his Bachelor of Art degree in Physics and Math from UC Santa Cruz.

In addition to this important new hire, Sustainable Spaces also recently announced it was the first California contractor to receive Building Performance Institute accreditation. At the end of 2008, the company was awarded the "Best Overall" Flex Your Power Award and ranked number 16 out of 100 on the fastest growing companies in San Francisco Bay Area by the San Francisco Business Times.
