Sutter Health Deploys Riverbed Steelhead Appliances

WDS Solutions Accelerate Applications Over the WAN and Strengthen Reliability, Access and Security of Vital Clinical Care Information

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - June 23, 2008) - Riverbed Technology (NASDAQ: RVBD), the technology and market leader in wide-area data services (WDS), today announced that Sutter Health has deployed Riverbed® WDS appliances to speed the performance of clinical applications over its wide area networks (WANs) and further ensure the security of sensitive data.

The medical groups and hospitals affiliated with Sutter Health serve millions of patients across more than 100 communities in Northern California, which requires caregivers have reliable, immediate and secure access to vital clinical information. Sutter Health is a leader in the adoption of cutting-edge clinical technologies to advance patient safety and quality outcomes. To ensure optimal bandwidth capacity for its IT systems, the Sutter Health information services team conducted a thorough review of available WAN solutions. Based on its tests of Riverbed Steelhead® appliances and Cisco WAAS, Sutter Health determined Riverbed could best meet its operational needs. Alternative offerings were able to provide only incremental performance gains, but Riverbed Steelhead appliances allowed Sutter Health to reduce some routine data transfer operations that once took days down to a matter of hours.

"Sutter Health is committed to investing in technologies that support our caregivers in providing the best possible care to patients. It is imperative that our clinical IT systems run at their peak performance," said Mark Heringer, Sutter Health Vice President of Technical Services. "When we look at the performance gains combined with the total cost of ownership and straightforward deployment model, it became evident that Riverbed surpassed other solutions on the market. Most importantly to us, the net result has been improved clinician satisfaction and improved patient services by deploying the technology."
