The appointments are effective immediately. Battelle, the world's leading independent research and development organization, serves government and commercial customers in the areas of national security, energy, health and the environment.

During her highly decorated 31-year career with the U.S. Air Force, she served in various leadership roles including as Commander, 24th Air Force and Air Forces Cyber where she oversaw a large, multibillion dollar organization responsible for defending the Air Force portion of the Department of Defense global network.

She has been awarded numerous medals and commendations including the Defense Superior Service Medal and Distinguished Service Medal. Battelle Board Chairman John Welch said, "The role of the Board of Directors is to bring perspectives from a wide variety of experiences to benefit Battelle's long-term success. Zan's deep roots in cyber security and strategic leadership will surely benefit this increasingly important area of Battelle's business. We are honored to have her as our newest member."

"Battelle has a distinguished history of scientific innovation and a legacy of helping to solve some of the world's most difficult challenges," Vautrinot said. "I'm grateful to have the opportunity to guide its future success as a member of its Board of Directors."

Donald was most recently President and CEO of Arlington, Virginia-based, Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc., an established professional services company focused on high-end analytical solutions for senior government decision makers.

"Kirk is an outstanding addition to our Board of Directors," Welch said. "His strong technical foundation and demonstrated skills with all branches of the federal government and with international partners can contribute greatly to Battelle's successful future."
