Suzano Pulp & Paper Operational on GT Nexus Portal for Global Shipment Visibility

On-Demand Solution Provides Real-Time Status of Containerized Shipments Across the Brazilian Company's Global Carrier Network

OAKLAND, CA and SAO PAULO, BRAZIL--(Marketwire - July 8, 2008) - GT Nexus today announced that it has successfully deployed a global shipment visibility platform for Suzano Pulp & Paper, one of Brazil's largest and fastest growing exporters. The on-demand platform connects partners, translates the incoming data and then provides Web-based applications that allow Suzano's logistics management teams in South America, North America and Europe to monitor and control the movement of its global containerized freight.

With annual sales revenues of over $2.6 billion and annual production capacity for 1.55 million tons of market pulp and 1.61 million tons of paper, Suzano is one of the largest vertically integrated producers of pulp and paper in Latin America.

"We have a huge ocean transportation network and have been looking for a proven system to get us the shipment status information we need," stated Ana Paula Trilho, Suzano International Logistics Manager. "GT Nexus has not only helped us achieve global visibility but has also empowered us to improve our supply chain management processes across our organization."

"Suzano has become one of our marquee customers in Brazil," said Greg Johnsen, EVP of marketing at GT Nexus. "We are committed to building on this foundation and helping them drive value across their organization. The platform is delivered over the web which means it is very flexible and can be extended to improve a broad range of business processes."

The GT Nexus portal comes pre-integrated to most of the world's top carriers and 3PLs. This enables new customers, like Suzano, to get up and running quickly with very high data quality levels. With the shipment status data standardized, Suzano gets a deeper understanding of its logistics performance across partners, which enables a more proactive supply chain management approach.

"GT Nexus is more than just a powerful tool," added Suzano's Logistics General Manager Gilberto Mascarenhas Meira. "We have also been able to strengthen some of our other existing partnerships through this initiative, which is fantastic. This is actually helping our carriers deliver more strategic value to us through advanced technology services."

Several applications are in place to help track and manage Suzano's shipments. In addition to a series of in-transit view dashboards, the system also allows Suzano to set exceptions so alerts trigger when events don't happened as planned.

"These automated alerts help us improve our customer service in overseas markets," added Trilho. "The platform also maintains records of past shipments, which can be located via online search and applied to future planning cycles or reports. We see multiple long-term benefits that can be exploited as we continue to grow."

With the base shipment visibility platform in place, Suzano has the option to expand into other business process areas like freight procurement, shipment planning, multi-modal inventory level visibility, business intelligence, and trade finance. GT Nexus is designed so customers can add just the services they need, at the pace their business requires. As an important next step, Suzano has plans to integrate their existing ERP system with GT Nexus so standardized visibility data can be used by other internal business units.

The Suzano engagement is being managed by, the GT Nexus certified partner for Brazil.
