Swedish Laser Technology in the Libyan Oil Industry

MÖLNDAL, SWEDEN--(Marketwire - July 12, 2007) - This is the first time the Mölndal based company Damalini has supplied equipment to the oil industry in an OPEC country. The state-owned oil company Ras Lanuf Oil and Gas Processing Company (RASCO) in Libya has invested in laser measuring equipment for measuring shaft alignment and straightness in turbines, and this is expected to result in major positive knock-on effects for the company's maintenance operations.

RASCO is counting on getting at least 50% longer service life on its rotating machinery, 5% shorter downtimes on unscheduled maintenance stoppages, and downtime that is a full 20% shorter on scheduled ones, thanks to the new measuring equipment. The company bought three Easy-Laserâ shaft alignment systems that are adapted for use in potentially explosive environments, as well as two measuring systems for straightness measuring on turbines. Measurement accuracy in both systems can be set to a thousandth of a millimetre.

"Clearly we are very proud and happy that for the first time we have been able to supply our Easy-Laserâ to the oil industry, and especially an OPEC country. The process and engineering sectors are our most usual customer groups, but the need for shaft alignment is naturally equally great within the petrochemicals industry," notes Leif Törngren, Sales Area Manager for Damalini.
