Swimming Pigs Steal the 'Show' at Red Carpet Event

Jarrod Knowles' WideScreen Film and Music Video Festival Success

AVENTURA, FL--(Marketwired - March 03, 2015) - The red carpet is no stranger to celebrities of all kinds, but on Sunday, March 1st 2015, this little piggy went wee wee wee all the way to AMC Aventura Theatres.

Charlie Smith, director of the hit documentary, "When Pigs Swim" commented by saying, "We took it up a notch when we had a pig on the red carpet." He went on to say, "From the moment we hit the theatre until we left, everybody, including the folks at AMC Aventura wanted to get a photograph with Penelope the piglet."

By everybody, he was referring to the over 1,000 attendees of the first ever WideScreen Film and Music Video Festival. "This film festival, organized by the talented and Bahamian-born Jarrod Knowles, was a huge success! We are not only ecstatic for Jarrod, but for the wonderful opportunity to show off the natural beauty of The Islands of The Bahamas", said Donna Mackey, Bahamas Film Commission Representative, Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

As Donna Mackey said, it was most certainly a wonderful show of what The Bahamas has to offer. From the creator of the film festival, Jarrod Knowles, to a number of films and directors also representing The Bahamas and of course the swimming pigs, it seems the true stars of the festival were the Islands of The Bahamas themselves. Of course, Charlie Smith would beg to differ as he later jested, "I wish everyone was there to see me, the director of the documentary. But sometimes, you just have to realize, the swimming pigs of Exuma are the real stars."

But with such a grand turnout for the first of many, it's easy to get excited for next year's WideScreen Film and Music Video Festival. One can only wonder how the festival will fair when compared to its inaugural launch. According to Donna Mackey, "The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism is working with Jarrod and the WideScreen Festival to bring the event to Grand Bahama Island next year."

If that comes to pass, one thing can be certain; when it comes to anything Bahamas…it only gets better.
